When a guy wants to date a girl, the words he says to her carry more weight than his bank account. He would promise Heaven and Earth, a tomorrow which does not belong to him, but he hopes that his words based on how it has been presented will activate an interest in the girl. I guess you probably know where I’m going with this, right? Maybe dating does not start off like this nowadays but what I’m trying to say is that we do and undo with our mouth.
We are powerful beings. One thing is common between a believer and an unbeliever is that our tongue has so much power. Growing up people said a whole lot of things to me and unknowingly to me I have them recorded in my head – funny thing is I don’t remember most of the good ones but the negative ones I do remember. Anytime I want to take a step and do something I would hear those words loud and clear. If it hasn’t occurred to you, anyone can pronounce things on you without them even knowing that they have the power to do so. I don’t think people know that they’re words can eat into someone’s future deeply. Words are very effective. What has someone said to you some years back that is still having a negative effect on you? I have made up my mind not to ever let that happen – truth is people will talk but to allow their words handicap me is a no no.
Now back to us, let’s choose our words carefully. It’s one thing to speak positive things and another thing to decree, declare and affirm things. If what is coming out of your mouth is edible there’s nothing that will come against you that will stick. Speak good things, speak the right things and build you with your own mouth. Be intentional about your words, sometimes the intentions are good but the words that go before it discourages the mind to try. I guess there’s a reason why God speaks to us and His words encourages and strengthens our faith. Let’s build ourselves in God’s way; let’s practice what He did and has been doing: forming our lives with the power of His words. We also have that same power to speak it and to see it happen.
