Be Intentional Series I: JOY

I’ve been upset this year more than I have ever been. I got to know myself a whole lot due to my job and I can say that I have been tried. There were times I wanted to quit, wave it a goodbye and look for something else but then I look at my expenses and I have to think twice. I don’t hate my job but I don’t like how I feel on some days due to familiar challenges that are out of my control. In the midst of it all I have learned to work with the negative energy.

I have realized that it’s not easy to just mind your own business nowadays. Truth is someone is always bringing their own matter into your business uninvited, and we all know uninvited guests most of the time barge in with unwanted inconveniences. And then all of a sudden we have to put our joy, our good mood on pause and address being mad or worried at something. I realized that sometimes we try to fit our bad moods into our schedule more than we try to fit in our good moods.

This is what I think; I believe we’re in control of our emotions. We are in control of what we say and we’re in control of what we want to believe. Anything happening in our proximity should not sip into our lives affecting us in any way. I know it sounds crazy, and I’m not saying don’t be angry or you can’t worry over stuff but our reaction and how long we babysit that thing is what I’m talking about. I did this with my job and just the other day after work a staff member was surprised I had a smile on my face after a crazy day. I’m not saying we should fake our joy either. Genuinely be joyful; joy outlasts happiness by the way. Enough of depression, enough of being downcast – enough of having a bad day because of what some stranger did on the highway. Intentionally put a smile on your face and understand that real joy comes from within not from anywhere else.

Things will happen in different ways and forms all aiming for one goal: to destruct, depress, and drain you – but I need you to understand that you get to choose how you feel. You get to decide whether that thing takes away your joy or not. So be intentional about your emotions and don’t allow anything to take your joy from you.

See you next time! ♥♥♥
